Inspiring Women of Post Production

International Women’s Day is a time for the world to celebrate the amazing women in our lives who we live, work, and collaborate with. It is also a time to celebrate the remarkable achievements of women throughout history and an opportunity to rally for gender equality and empowerment.

In a conversation with four of ENVY’s inspiring women, Millie Coaker (MC), Teresa Braida (TB), Daria-Alexandra Croitoru (DC), and Taisiya Morgunova (TM), they discuss the importance of International Women’s Day, their inspirations, and their biggest achievements.
Q

Which women inspire you the most?

MC

It would have to be my mum and my cousin. I have been bought up by women with the most incredible work ethic! My mum works for the London Fire Brigade and has had to deal with some incredibly challenging moments in her career, so growing up and knowing how important a work life balance is and also being an incredible person. Then my cousin works with drug and alcohol abuse victims as well so both are incredible women doing incredible things in helping other people. I think they’ve really instilled that in me to be kind, to help and to do the best that I can.

Q

What is your proudest achievement?

MC

My biggest achievement so far is how quickly I’ve moved through the ranks. I have been at ENVY for just over 2 years now after graduating from university but being at this Company and with the Academy it gave me the opportunity to train in all the different departments and that helped me climb the ranks. I’m really proud of the hard work that I have put in and it’s all been worth it.

MC

I think within the television industry in particular, we are seeing more inclusivity and diversity. I think the more people you include in the conversation, the better the quality of that conversation is going to be. The ideas you get from more diverse backgrounds means the end result is going to be even richer; you’re branching out to a different group of people who may not have been initially considered in the first place.

Q

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?

DC

International Women’s Day is a day to celebrate having overcome our hardships throughout history.

Q

Which women inspire you the most?

DC

I’m really inspired by all the women who work here at ENVY, who have paved the way for us Runners wanting to move up within the Company.

Q

DC

To me, Inspire Inclusion is acknowledging intersectionality amongst women and coming together with our differences.

Q

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?

TM

It is about remembering the fight for women’s rights and remembering those who got us to where we are now. It’s also important to remember that the fight isn’t over, and we need to continue to speak up for those who cannot.

Q

What is your proudest achievement?

TM

I would say my short film which I did as part of my degree; it got into 4 festivals which I am really proud of. I also feel proud to be one of the youngest employees at the ENVY too.

Q

This years theme for International Women’s Day is ‘Inspire Inclusion’. What does this mean to you?

TM

It is about popularising inclusivity in the workplace and underrepresented areas for women including film and TV. We need to showcase successful women in our industry to inspire and encourage young girls to join the industry.

Q

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?

TB

It is a little bittersweet that we still need to have this day to remember that we are all equal. But I dream of a day that we don’t need to have this day as there will no longer be a need to raise awareness because we will be at a point where everybody is equal.

Q

Which women inspire you the most?

TB

The women who inspire me the most are the women from my village where I grew up. They are all really strong, very independent and they don’t let anyone mess them around. They are very to the point and have been able to do incredible things with the time they are given. I really appreciate growing up having seen this.

Q

What is your proudest achievement?

TB

I don’t think I’ve met my greatest achievement yet because there’s so much I need to do but I am proud that I have been able to move out of my home country, have a career away from home and do things for myself.
